Descendants of Roger Dart Westaway

 

Roger Dart Westaway came to this Island, when a young man from Devonshire, England, and his family and descendants have been well known because of their association with the sea.  They were renowned in earlier days for their ship building activities and numbered among their holdings many both "fore and afters" and square riggers.  Among the latter were the Plymouth, and the Westaway, both of which were built on the shore of the(ir) farm.

Roger Dart Westaway b. ca. 1783, Winkleigh, Devonshire, England, m. 29 OCT 1819 Damaris  ‘Mary’ Watts Sanders (or Saunders), b. ca. 1792, Charles Plymouth, Devonshire, UK, d. 25-DEC-1848, buried: Georgetown, P.E.I. (Anglican Cemetery).  Roger died 01-MAY-1875, buried: 03-MAY-1875, Georgetown, P.E.I. (Anglican Cemetery).   Burial record gives his age as 92. Emigrated to PEI 1820 on brig Plymouth Dock Hero to Charlottetown.

 

·  Brought several hundred Devon apple trees with him when he emigrated from England and started an orchard and cider mill.

i.                 Elizabeth Damaris Watts Westaway b. 16 OCT 1817, East Allington, Devonshire,             England. Bapt 5 NOV 1817, m. 13 APR     1851 to George Moore (son of David Moore   and Annie Marie Mabey.  Elizabeth died 13 SEP 1891

ii             Richard Westaway b. 1819 East Allington, Devonshire, England. m. 05-DEC-1852, in             Sturgeon, P.E.I.,  Mary Creed, b.  30 JUN 1826

iii          Lewis John Westaway b.  12 NOV 1821,  Montague, PEI m. Ann __________, b.             Glasgow, Scotland,  d. 23 FEB 1878, buried: Georgetown, P.E.I. (Anglican             Cemetery).  Lewis died 23 NOV 1885, buried: Georgetown, P.E.I. (Anglican Cemetery).
